“WHAT’S NEW”

 

INTERVENTION CLASSES- New intervention classes do not start until Monday, March 27th.  All students who had an intervention class 3rd quarter should continue to meet in that class through Friday.

 

SENIORS- The deadline to apply to do a graduation speech or performance is on March 29th. The deadline to purchase your Knott’s Senior Trip ticket for $85 at the finance office is also on March 29th. Ticket prices will increase to $95 after spring break. Your Senior Packet has all of the details. If you need a senior packet there is a digital copy on Minga in the Class of 2023 group, or you can come by ASB.

 

SENIORS- submit your then and now pictures for the yearbook by Wednesday, March 29th. The link to submit is available from your English teacher or on Minga.

 

“BHS NEWS”

 

BHS TAX DAY- The Bonita High School Accounting students invite you to a Tax Day on Thursday, March 23, 2023. The Accounting students will be preparing Free Income Tax Returns for taxpayers with income below $60,000.If you want an appointment, please sign up on the link provided on the Bonita web site under Tax Day/ go to tinyurl.com/2023taxday /email Ms. Sekhri at m.sekhri@bonita.k12.ca.us or call 909-971-8220. If you are BHS student, please download, print, complete and bring the required intake sheet and student permission slip, W-2s, social security cards and IDs. Intake sheets and student permission slips are also available in Room 906.

 

ACTION NIGHT- is Friday, April 21st at 6:30pm in the BHS new gym.

 

PROM 2023- will be on May 20th! Junior class council is working hard on all the details and look forward to surprising our students with the theme for this year’s prom. Tickets and permission slips will be available after spring break. More details to come!

 

BATTLE OF THE BANDS- Do you and your friends play in a band together?  Would you like an opportunity to perform for the school in a competition to find the best band on campus?   The Battle of the Bands will make its triumphant return to the Bonita High School Student Union stage on Friday, May 19th and we want your band to participate.  If you are interested in participating in the Battle of the Bands, come to the Battle of the Bands meeting on Tuesday March 21st during 2nd lunch in room 809 to get more information.  Rock on Bearcats!

 

PROJECT THINK- is looking for volunteers for their summer program. Project Think is a non-profit program committed to supporting and enriching the lives of children through excellence in education. For more information and the application see attachments.

 

STUDENTS AND PARENTS PTSA’s Nominating Committee are busy looking to fill all Executive Board Positions for the 2023-2024 school year. We are still in need of President. If you are a student, parent, or guardian and you are interested or have any questions please email Selina Garcia at selina3183@gmail.com.

 

 

HONOR ROLL- if you have not received your honor roll award, please see Ms. Ashlie at the front desk during break or lunch. All awards not picked up by the end of the week will be distributed to classrooms.

 

NO DROP OFF IN STAFF PARKING- Please help us keep our students and campus safe by not picking up, dropping off, or parking in the staff parking lot. This applies to before and after school as well. Spaces are assigned and disrupt the work day for faculty and staff when spaces are taken or occupied. Also, cars going through that lot pose a safety concern for our campus. Students that are picked up, dropped off, parking, or grabbing items from the staff lot will receive a detention.

 

SENIORS- BHS Seniors are invited to Disney’s Grad Nite. Buy your ticket to join in the fun at Disneyland/ CA Adventure/ Disney’s Grad Nite After Party. (Limited tickets) Date: Wednesday, June 14th from 9:00 am– Thursday, June 15th at 3:00 am. Cost $199. For more information contact Mrs. K. at gradnight23bhs@gmail.com. Grad nite tickets will be on sale during lunch in front of the attendance windows every Thursday through the month of March. This activity is NOT sponsored by the school or the district.  It is run by a parent organization.

 

STUDENTS- if you need Free Tax Help, the accounting students can help. See Mrs. Sekhri in Room 906. Ask about Free Tax Help through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program sponsored by the IRS.

 

NO DROP OFFS- As a reminder, we do not allow any Student item drop offs. This includes food services (Uber Eats, Door Dash, etc). If you need to exchange something with your Student (Guardian or Emergency Contact in Aries), please let your student know ahead of time or via text to meet you in the main office. We are not able to call classrooms to remind Students to come up for drop offs or call them out of class. When coming in to exchange, please enter from the main office doors off of D Street. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. This allows us to keep our campus safe during the school day for all Students.

 

LUNCH IN STUDENT PARKING LOTis NOT permitted. Students are not allowed to loiter, mingle, eat lunch and set out chairs in the parking lot at lunch so that we may maintain the safety of everyone.

 

“BHS SCHOLARSHIPS”

 

SENIORS- the La Verne Chamber of Commerce is offering multiple scholarships up to $500 each.  This is for all graduating seniors whose primary residence is in La Verne, CA or attend school in La Verne, CA.  Click on the link for all the details and the application.  2023 Scholarship App

 

SENIORS – the Bonita High School PTSA Senior Scholarship is now available. The deadline is end of school day on Thursday, March 30, 2023. Please see the attached application for more information. For any questions, please email rachellekillackey@hotmail.com. Applications are also available in the Career Center and can be returned to Ms. O’Grady no later than March 30th.

 

“BHS ATHLETICS”

 

BONITA SPIRIT TRYOUTS- Cheer and Song tryouts will be held on April 22nd. Applications are now available at https://bonitaspirit.weebly.com/tryout-information.html
Applications close on April 10th.

WRESTLING BANQUET- is set for Tuesday, March 28th @ 6:00 pm. It will be held in the wrestling room and we will be serving a taco dinner. The cost is $15 for adults and $8 for kids 10 and under. Wrestlers are free. Please pay in the finance office by March 22nd so we can get a head count.

“BHS LIBRARY”

The library’s “Preview of works” event has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 23rd, during intervention and lunch. We still hope to see you there!

“BHS CAREER CENTER

CITY OF LA VERNE JOBS FOR SUMMER- City of La Verne is currently looking to hire for summer positions.

 

They are looking for:

Pool aides

Lifeguards

Swim instructors

Red Cross Certifications are a plus but not needed 

 

The City of La Verne is willing to train and pay for the Red Cross training.

The deadline to submit an application is 3/23/23. Applicants can obtain their certifications if they are hired, they do not need to have them at this time.
