Freshman CORE Accelerated Program
Bonita High School’s Freshman CORE Accelerated Program provides a unique and challenging educational experience designed for highly motivated students. Serving as a small learning community within the larger high school environment, CORE combines rigorous academics, cross-curricular instruction, and project-based learning to help students develop the skills needed for success in honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and college-level coursework.
The program brings together Social Studies, Science, English, and Technology through an integrated approach that emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and real-world problem solving. Approximately 105 incoming freshmen are selected each year to participate. Students work closely with a team of three teachers during a three-period block, allowing for deeper exploration of content, extended laboratory investigations, professional guest speakers, field experiences, and long-term collaborative projects.
CORE students have the opportunity to take one of the few AP courses available to freshmen through AP Human Geography, building a strong foundation in geographic thinking, global awareness, and analytical skills. In Accelerated Biology, students engage in a rigorous laboratory-based science curriculum that prepares them for future AP science courses. The English component focuses on developing advanced reading, writing, speaking, and research skills that support academic achievement across all subject areas.
By fostering curiosity, creativity, and academic excellence, the CORE Accelerated Program prepares students to become confident learners, effective communicators, and engaged citizens ready to meet the challenges of high school and beyond.
