The Senior P.A.C.E. Project at Bonita High School

 

Last March our world changed. Social distancing, masks, hand sanitizer and counting to 20 while washing your hands is the new normal. Obviously, the senior P.A.C.E. project has to change its requirements in lieu of the new world we now live in. 

This year, the senior board has decided to offer 3 project choices. Each of the choices will involve a proposal, approval process, 20 hours worth of progress logs, a self-evaluation, an interview with an expert in their chosen field and a creative way to present them all in the P.A.C.E. eFfolio. In addition, each project must represent a learning stretch for the student. 

Below is a snapshot of each of the new projects, the pages that follow will have details for each project choice. 

Option #1 Traditional Hours

Students choosing this option would be following the traditional P.A.C.E. project, getting a mentor, logging hours and providing evidence of learning outcomes. This option is for any student who has completed their summer hours or would like to complete volunteer hours for their project. (Note: this is not a requirement for this school year due to Covid 19, but remains an option for those who completed hours over the summer or are going to complete them before April 28, 2021.

Option #2 College Level Online Course

Students choosing this option would be required to find an online course of interest (ideally something that advances you toward the career you’ve identified), register, take the course, complete the assignments and the course. Students will need to log their progress as well as (at minimum) pass their chosen course. Many students chose this route for their summer hours and it is a solid and safe way to complete this project.   

Option #3 Personal Improvement/Self Care

Students choosing this option would be creating a self-improvement or self-care goal, monitoring their progress as they go. It will involve identifying and creating positive habits that help students achieve the S.M.A.R.T. goals they have set for themselves. These goals could include taking lessons in order to do something, such as play an instrument, setting fitness and/or mental health goals. At the end, students will need to creatively demonstrate their progress in their eFolio. This project is also ideal for students who are concerned with their mental health, physical health and overall wellness. 

The senior board feels as though this change will accommodate all students while still holding the same elevated P.A.C.E. standards. It is meant to offer options that are safe for students to complete yet still challenge them to be their best.
